Reviving the Vine Spirit: Divine’s AI-Free Resurgence

Vine’s legacy, once thriving and enthusiastically used, faced a premature end in 2017 when Twitter decided to shut it down. Numerous endeavors over the years aimed to revive its charm but ultimately fell short of success. Today, Jack Dorsey, the prominent former CEO of Twitter, returns with a bold initiative to reignite the Vine essence through a fresh platform named Divine. This forthcoming service emphasizes the innate creativity that Vine celebrated, proudly committing to an experience entirely free from artificial intelligence.

Decisively distinct from Vine, Divine leverages open-source and decentralized technology to establish itself. Built on the resilient Nostr protocol, which Dorsey commends, the platform aspires to shield itself from censorship and monopolistic control. Jack Dorsey’s non-profit, andOtherStuff, founded in 2025, generously supports Divine along with similar pioneering projects.

The Renaissance of Old and New Content

Reviving not only the ethos but also the treasures of Vine, Divine has unearthed a considerable video archive from the original platform thanks to efforts by Evan Henshaw-Plath, a member from Twitter’s earliest teams. This crucial content retrieval revealed a bounty of between 150,000 and 200,000 videos, attributed to nearly 60,000 content creators. These creative artefacts will serve as the backbone of Divine’s initial platform. Furthermore, efforts are being made to reinstate former Vine account holders—who can return by verifying their identities—while also respecting those opting out through DMCA removals.

Strict Adherence to Human Creativity

The core distinction of Divine is its robust stance against AI-generated content. During its beta phase, which saw 10,000 early adopters, the platform placed stringent controls against videos created by artificial intelligence, directly excluding perpetrators of such content. The developers of Divine argue persuasively that many in the digital realm still ardently favor the genuine spontaneity of human creativity over algorithms dictating content streams.

Aiming to create a distinctive micro-video ecosystem, Divine aspires to bridge nostalgic connections with the evolving online culture, underlining a human-centric focus. Should Divine flourish, it promises to offer a refreshing alternative in an era where social media is overwhelmingly dominated by AI-enhanced algorithms.
