Nvidia Addresses Windows 11 Game Performance Issue with Emergency Driver Update

Recently, Nvidia and AMD both rolled out optimized driver updates for the latest installment of Call of Duty, Black Ops 7. Nvidia’s GeForce driver saw an upgrade to version 581.80, whereas AMD’s Radeon driver advanced to version 25.11.1. Notably, AMD introduced a new feature called FSR Ray Regeneration, or “Redstone,” with this update.

Despite the initial improvements from these updates, Nvidia had to release an urgent hotfix shortly after. This emergency driver update emerged after the release of version 581.80, addressing performance issues observed in select games. Nvidia identified the recent Windows 11 October 2025 “Patch Tuesday” update, specifically the KB5066835 patch for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2, as the root cause of these problems. According to Nvidia, “Our Version 581.94 driver is built upon the latest Game Ready Driver 581.80, which directly addresses the issue of diminished performance in specific games following the Windows 11 October 2025 KB5066835 update.”

Though specifics were not provided about which games are most impacted, it is assumed that major titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Battlefield 6 could be among those experiencing setbacks. Microsoft’s Health Panel has yet to recognize any known issues in correlation with these performance drops.

Initial user reactions have been largely favorable. One player shared on a social platform, “I’ve tested the new driver on Blops7, BF6, and Arc Raiders—it runs much smoother now.” There remains curiosity about whether related issues in other games have been ironed out, but further updates from Nvidia on this front are still awaited.

Guidance for Users Preceding Installation

To acquire the newly released GeForce emergency driver 581.94, users should proceed to Nvidia’s official website. This particular driver release is a beta emergency fix, and unless you’re experiencing performance degradation, it might be wise to wait for the WHQL-certified driver, which promises more extensive testing. Waiting for a stable release can ensure thorough vetting and potentially more comprehensive solutions.
