Meta has launched a groundbreaking feature aimed at resolving a persistent challenge for creators on Facebook and Instagram: unauthorized video reposts. Termed as “content protection”, this tool empowers creators to effortlessly identify accounts that have reuploaded their original reels, whether partially or completely.
With this new feature, creators receive a comprehensive view of which accounts are sharing their content through an intuitive dashboard. They are presented with three actionable choices: follow, block, or release. By choosing Follow, creators can add a source tag to the video, enabling them to monitor viewership. Opting to Block ensures the video is removed from visibility across the platform, without imposing extra penalties on the unauthorized sharer. The Release option facilitates removing the video from the tracking panel, ceasing any performance analytics.
Additionally, the panel provides valuable insights into whether the video is being used for monetization, supporting creators in making well-informed choices about blocking, tracking, or passive observation of their content. Meta’s initiative marks a significant milestone in fortifying the rights and controls for digital content creators.
