DJI has unveiled its latest innovation in the action camera realm, the Osmo Action 6, boasting a global launch. While its exterior design mirrors that of its predecessor from last year, this new version brings with it a host of exciting features.
Key Features of DJI Osmo Action 6
The Osmo Action 6 is equipped with an adjustable aperture, utilizing a mechanical iris rather than software solutions. This functionality enables the aperture to be configured between f/2.0 (to capture more light, enhancing low-light performance) and f/4.0 (to allow less light, achieving an increased depth of field and diminishing the necessity of ND filters under bright conditions). Previous models such as the Action 5 Pro and GoPro Hero 13 Black featured a fixed f/2.8 aperture.
This innovative camera also integrates a new 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor, larger than the previous 1/1.3-inch sensor found in the Action 5 Pro. This square-shaped sensor, akin to the front camera sensor in Apple’s iPhone 17, offers greater versatility in post-production cropping, allowing for seamless transitions between horizontal and vertical aspect ratios—particularly useful for social media sharing.
Capable of recording up to 4K/120fps with a 4:3 aspect ratio, the Osmo Action 6 also supports slow-motion recording at up to 1080p at 240fps, which can be extended to 960fps by employing frame interpolation. The internal storage has been significantly increased to 50GB, with the option to expand up to 1 TB using a microSD card.
DJI reports that under ideal conditions—such as shooting at 1080p/24 fps—the Action 6 can continuously record for up to four hours, thanks to its robust 1,950 mAh battery. However, actual battery life will vary, especially when filming in 4K or at higher frame rates, or in extremely cold environments. Remarkably, the camera functions effectively at temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius and remains waterproof at depths exceeding 20 meters.
The Osmo Action 6 is priced at 379 euros for the standard model featuring a single battery, with the Adventure Combo package—consisting of three batteries and the Battery Case 3 charger—retailing for 479 euros.
