Discover how Google enhances its AI search mode by integrating ads, promising a new era of targeted advertising and search convenience.
Google has consistently been focused on integrating its artificial intelligence initiatives into a profitable model, particularly through its Search platform. As Search contributes significantly to Google’s overall revenue, this strategic move is not unexpected. Recently, evidence of these endeavors becoming tangible has surfaced.

The AI Mode, previously devoid of any advertisements, now features ads for certain users. A notable instance was shared by a user named Greg Sterling on platform X, who reported encountering an ad while searching for air conditioner repair services within the AI Mode. He clarified that this search was done using the Labs version. Additionally, another user, Brodie Clark, remarked that such ads also appeared outside of the Labs environment.
The ads presented are marked as “sponsored,” maintaining the style of conventional search ads, and they appear with a design akin to the organic cards found on the search page. Interestingly, these ads are strategically positioned at the lower segment of search results.
About a year ago, Google began embedding sponsored content in AI Overviews for mobile users. Until then, AI Mode remained ad-free, likely facilitating a smoother transition for users to adapt to the new search experience. However, Google now seems to be progressing with its anticipated plan by introducing sponsored content to AI Mode.
